Samriddhi
Project Samriddhi, a collaborative initiative uniting civil society, state, and corporate support, aims to build upon and scale the resounding success of Project Udaan. In 2022, Rajasthan State Government’s Project Udaan served as a remarkable testament to the transformative potential of pre-matric scholarships and the profound impact of reshaping parental attitudes.

Beyond the financial impact, Udaan provided a blueprint for meticulous scholarship process reengineering and governance strengthening at the state level. Its invaluable insights underscored the importance of enhancing government service delivery, fostering parental support networks, such as peer girl groups, and empowering school stakeholders. These dynamic elements played pivotal roles in accelerating scholarship disbursements to girls, illuminating the path toward improved educational access.
According to UDISE+ 2021-22 data, 20% of girls dropping out of secondary education across India is from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh
Rajasthan State Government’s Project Udaan
- Reduced girls’ dropout rate from 9% to 3.7%
- Three-fold increase in government scholarship expenditure for girls, surging from $4 million to an impressive $12 million between 2017 and 2021.
In its initial phase, Samriddhi focuses on four states with alarming girl dropout rates: Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh. These states collectively account for approximately 20% of girl children disengaging from secondary education across the country, as indicated by UDISE+ 2021-22 data.

Project Samriddhi employs a multifaceted approach designed to enhance girls’ enrolment and facilitate seamless progression from primary to secondary grades. Simultaneously, it actively supports government initiatives and challenges deeply ingrained societal norms hindering girls’ education.
Objectives of Samriddhi
- Furnishing technical assistance to State Governments to enhance their capacity to mobilise and optimise resources within the scholarship domain.
- Collaborating closely with the central government, including institutions like NITI Aayog and pertinent ministries, to streamline the timely allocation of scholarship budgets and introduce annual adjustments to scholarship amounts to keep pace with inflation.
- Actively engaging with schools, girls, and communities to cultivate a culture of heightened scholarship utilisation, invigorating girls’ enrolment, and facilitating smoother transitions throughout their educational journeys.
